Wellington's Homegrown show could be put off

Wild climate gauge for tomorrow could disturb the weekend for 17,500 revelers wanting to go to the Wellington waterfront's sold-out Homegrown music celebration.


Metservice and NIWA are foreseeing rain, thunder and 100kmh wind blasts for the capital and coordinators may need to move the occasion to Sunday.

Coordinator Kelly Wright said marquees at the multi-stage occasion that gimmicks 57 groups and entertainers were intended to securely handle winds just up to 70kmh.

"We are at present encountering conditions on location that would make it hazardous to run the celebration and the estimate is for fundamentally the same conditions tomorrow. There is still a risk that the climate may die down however it is currently more probable that we will defer to Sunday than run the celebration on Saturday," she said. Wright said, at this stage, there was a 90 every penny risk the occasion would be put off.

A last call will be made somewhere around 9 and 9.30am tomorrow morning.
